Account type
S & MC Transport Ltd was formed in 1972 by Septimus & Mary Cook. Sep's family had been involved in road haulage since it's early development in the formative years of the last century. Prior to 1972 Sep had traded as Septimus Cook of Consett, Co.Durham

The company was purchased in 1982 by Paul Taylor and Nick Lyons when Sep wanted to retire and operations were relocated from Darlington to the present address in Stockon-on-Tees. Nick retired in 2006 to pursue his lifelong ambition and become a commercial pilot. Geoff Fletcher was drafted in and brought his tremendous all-round knowledge of haulage, warehousing and shipping. He was followed by Andy Grabham with his retail and accountancy skills. Paul Taylor has been involved in road haulage operations since 1972, is twice a former Northern Chairman of the Institute of Transport Administration and has served two terms on the Institute's national finance commitee.

S & MC Transport Ltd provide top quality road haulage services throughout the UK and Europe and for many years have specialised in all types of forest products, bottled and canned drinks with which we back up with our own Chep pallet account. In addition we have developed our services for the packaging industry as well as maintaining a traditional base of all types of goods including plastics, insulation, steelwork, machinery, castings and all types of general haulage.

Our operations are not only confined to North East England, we provide a full general haulage service with daily collections and deliveries all over the UK and for all sectors of industry including a significant quantity of forest products for importers, shipping lines and agencies from major ports such as Felixstowe, Tilbury and Teesport.

All the vehicles we use are either owner-drivers or from large and small (mostly private) haulage companies most of which we have known for many years and with whom we have a very close working relationship. Performance of approved hauliers is constantly monitored and appraised weekly to maintain the care and attention to detail we expect and provide to our customers, both large and small. This proven structure enables us to have at our disposal and at short notice an enormous pool of vehicles from over 1300 hauliers. This enables us to easily compete with the biggest fleets, but keeping our costs low to offer our customers a top quality service at a very competitive price.
