Due to the current wintery weather, the Department for Transport (DFT) has temporary relaxed
HGV drivers’ hours and working time rules for drivers delivering heating fuel and will run until 23.59 on Thursday (31 January) but is only applicable to drivers delivering kerosene and gas oil to domestic, agricultural and industrial purposes.
The nine hour driving limit will be replaced by 10 hours and daily rest requirements will be reduced from 11 to nine hours. Weekly 56 hour and fortnightly 90 hour limits will be temporarily lifted and the 60 hour weekly working time maximum has been increased to 66 hours.
Weekly rest requirements have also been postponed until the end of the period, after which drivers are required to take a minimum rest of 24 hours no later than the end of the eleventh day following their last rest.
Drivers must still take a 45 minute break after 4 ½ driving hours as normal and
Vosa has reminded operators that they should not be expected to drive whilst tired.
Drivers must note the reasons why they are extending normally permitted limits on the back of their tachograph charts.
